Merseyside Junior Chess Congress - June 2018
Todays Merseyside Junior Chess Congress held In Merchant Taylors Girls School in Crosby saw some quality chess and some great performances from over 50 juniors.
A huge Thank You to Merchant Taylors for providing the fantastic venue once again which us perfect for these events.
In the Under 9 section we had 3 players tie for 2nd place in Martin Chen, Tanya Madhusudhan and William Guelbenzu behind winner Aaron Freddy who won all 5 games after a final showdown with William to decide the U9 title.
In the Under 11 section we Edmund Erhardt and Jack Bradshaw finish joint 4th, and Oliver Skidmore in 3rd place, Ciaran McGuigan 2nd behind winner Ashvin Kumar who chose to play in the Under 11 section rather than the under 9s. Great achievement to step up a section and win all his games.
In the Over 11 section we had Eleanor Rowlandson and Anna Xie tie in 4th place, Frank Hudson in 3rd and Bashar Rovezi in 2nd place behind winner Marek Korsinskij who also stepped up through choice from the Under 11 section to win the Over 11 title. Great achievement Marek!
We also had a sportsperson of the tournament award which went to Leo Clarkson who played with fun and flair on the day and is clearly delighted with his award.
Another great event and once again we would like to ask all Merseyside juniors to register on the Merseysidechess.org.uk website so you are kept up to date with junior chess on Merseyside and invited to all future Congress events, training days and Merseyside team trials and national competitions.
Thanks to all parents and helpers on the day without whom we could not run these brilliant events which will see junior Chess on Merseyside thrive over the next few years.
