The Merseyside junior chess league had another round of fixtures yesterday at Merchant Taylor Junior Boys school which leaves just a couple of games outstanding for this season.
The title was decided yesterday with the tightest of outcomes possible at the top. Wirral Juniors and Liverpool Knights both finished the season with 13 points from a possible 14 points after drawing with each other early in the season and winning all other matches. Wirral scored 28.5 board victories through the season and Liverpool Knights 28.0

Liverpool juniors 1st team will be crowned the Merseyside Junior Chess Division 1 league title having already earned enough points to claim the prize with one game still to go.
Liverpool who were also 2017 champions are 2 points clear of current Champions from 2018 Wirral but with a much superior board count which means Wirral cannot now catch Liverpool and they will reclaim the title once again.
Teams from Wirral, Southport, Bluecoat, Merchant Taylor Girls and Liverpool 2 all competed for this years title with many tight games and good individual performances and there are still a few games to go to see who takes 2nd place this season.

The remaining fixtures are due to be played in March 2019, the exact date is still to be confirmed.
Congratulations to Liverpool 1 players Marek, Luke, Bashar, Nikolas Frank and Jeremy pictured at the World Chess championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana in London this year.
The Merseyside Division 2 Junior league title is still to be decided with Merchant Taylor Junior Boys 1st team in prime position but they can mathematically be caught by Wirral Juniors 2 who need to win their last game by at least a 4-1 margin to tie with the leaders.
Bluecoat 2 making her debut in the league this year can still claim 2nd place so it is still all to fight for.
Teams from Merchant Taylor Girls and Merchant Boys 2 have also competed this season with some good individual results.
